Stayed here the 3rd week in Oct and it was FANTASTIC! First of all, the people there were absolutely STELLAR. Alice, Anastasia, Natalya, Evgeny...SO charming and helpful and PATIENT! The hotel is in a GREAT location, walking distance to SOOOO many things, restaurants, grocers, the Post office, shops, metro, and of course attractions. The room was SO lovely, and SOOO clean! When I was there , the hotel was not packed and they gave me an upgrade, which, my European standards, was HUGE! Bathroom too, and who doesn't love the floor tile warmer and the towel warming rack?? I was right on the street side, which is no bother to me, as I am from the city and actually like a bit of traffic sound. But even if you don't, it was not obtrusive. Bed slept like a DREAM! I come to St. Petersburg regularly, and this time I wished to stay close to the main sights. The hotel is situated in Bolshaya Morskaya, a few steps from the Isaac cathedral, The Winter Palace and the Admiralty. As most reviewers have said, this hotel is centrally located and less expensive than most others in the area. You can easily walk to most tourist attractions, and the staff all speak English and are both welcoming and helpful. Hidden treasure!

The location of Herzen House could not be bettered, half way between St Isaacs cathedral and Nevsky Prospect, and closer to Palace Square than all of the upscale hotels close to the cathedral (Astoria, Angleterre, Petro Palace and the coming Four Seasons). But it isn't competing with upscale hotels at all. The premises occupy two floors of an old apartments building with centrla stairwell/lift separating the rooms into three "sectors" on each floor. Breakfast is served in a small cafe-style room which is open all day for free self-service tea/coffee/biscuits which is a very useful facility - it's "on tap", with a quiet place to sit, whenever you want it. Rooms are clean, well furnished (though the double bed is cramped) and with perfectly adequate bathroom (shower, no bathtub). Road noise was not a problem on the fourth floor - hardly noticed any noise at all - and there was no noise at all from the nearby breakfast room. Toiletries provided and telephones in all rooms were unexpected bonuses at this price level.Reception was welcoming and helpful, with English spoken. Highly recommended, would not hesitate to return. Had a wonderful 7 nights at Herzen House,. Staff very welcoming, helpful and certainly a comfortable hotel. No flash but hotel very clean, breakfast healthy and position- you can't get better. Good restaurants nearby and Nevsky Prospect very close but not so close that you feel its busy-ness. I had made a mistake with my booking but that proved to be no issue or problem for the hotel. The complimentary Russian afternoon tea was a surprsie and very enjoyable. The rooms are not huge but comfy and as it was June who spent time in their room when there was so much to do and all in alking distance. All the contacts with hotel staff, from reservations, to transportation from the airport, to being there for 3 days were perfect. They could not be nicer, or more supportive. The location is great. 10 minutes to the Hermitage, and 5 minutes to Nevsky Prospect. The rooms are clean, WiFi in the rooms and common areas is free. Thank you Herzen House! Rooms were basic but very clean, tidy and functional. Location was brilliant- walk to everything. Good restaurant next door and others nearby. Supermarket on corner as well for those small things. Staff were fantastic- friendly and helpful- although I could not get to Novgorod!! But that will be next trip when I again stay at Herzen House! Breakfasts nourishing.Had a mix up with my booking- my fault as I extended my stay- Herzen House staff found me another hotel for the one night I needed. Had a slight hiccup with flight coming in- delay in pick up at airport ( but traffic in St P can be horrendous) but arrived and then found a bottle of champagne and a free transfer back to make up for my having to wait! Certainly will recommend to everyone and certainly will stay again. Note- quietness of first room was wonderful (back room facing courtyard); front room was a little noisier. Recommend you take eye shades if you are there in summer- White Nights- are indeed that. But, then there is so much to see and do in St P that who wants to sleep too long!! I booked online through their reservation system. They require one night's deposit and request a copy of your credit card and passport. First, let me say that all of my contacts with hotel staff, from reservations, to visa support, to being there for 6 days were perfect. They could not be nicer, or more supportive. The location is great. 10 minutes to the Hermitage, The Neva and 5 minutes to Nevsky Prospect. The rooms are clean, but spare. The TV is good for Europe, with BBC and CNN. The staff was great and very responsive to any requests. The rooms were spotless, quiet and comfortable, but small. The breakfast which is included in the room rate was good. It is also in a very good location and only a short walk from the Hermitage. There are several restaurants and a small convenience store close by. We stayed there for 7 nights and would certainly go back. They are a small property and fill up quickly, so you must book several months in advance if you will be in St. Petersburg during the tourist season. They have a good web site and are prompt in responding to any emails.Agoda traveller.

The staff is so friendly, helpful and conscious The breakfast is so healthy and delicious. The hotel is so excellent located within easy walking distance in most tourist destinations. The rooms are very specious with comfortable beds and large bathrooms. I would highly recommend the Herzen House and would return when I visit St.Petersburg next. Petit hôtel TRES bien situé, proche des édifices à visiter et de la Néva. L'un d'entre nous était en fauteuil roulant. L'accessibilité en fauteuil roulant n'est pas assuré à 100% (une marche à l'entrée, une marche à l'intérieur et une porte de salle de bain un peu étroite) mais la chambre que nous avions est très spacieuse. L'hôtel se trouve au 4ème étage. On y accède par ascenseur large. Le personnel est accueillant et disponible. La rénovation de l'hôtel est récente. Very conveniently located 3 blocks or so from Nievsky Prospekt, the center of town, 5 or 6 blocks to Hermitage Museum, park, sightseeing buses, and boat tours. There is free wi-fi internet in the room. A very decent, free breakfast is served every morning, featuring, eggs, cereals, russian pancakes, cold cut meats, breads, cheese, jam, yogurts, fruits, milk, juice, tea, coffee. Housekeeping is provided everyday. Hotel front desk speak english very well, and are very courteous and helpful. Cozy and comfortable hotel in the center of the city

I had been at Herzen House hotel in a business trip. The company booked the room for me, and it turned out that I'd got superior room instead of standard. The room was spacious, there were some 4 windows with thick curtains and blinds on them. There were free Wi-Fi, the full-sized fully equipped bath, LCD TV on the wall, very cozy light and huge comfortable bed. The breakfast was tasty, however once or twice during our stay we had to get out very early and ask staff to get our breakfast early too. Staff offered us lunchboxes with our breakfast instead and that was very convenient. Location of the hotel is very central so it is very convenient for both business and leisure travellers. Superb location nearby Heremitage makes this place worth to take a shot. Although rooms were quite small there was everything you could need. Staff was really friendly and their english is good enough to make your point. Breakfast was amazing. When coming back into St.Petersburg this would be my first choice.

I was here in 2009 with ajavascript:void(0); group of students and liked the hotel very much. It's a reason why I came back again. People who work here are always pleasant and helpful- even to the helping me with Russian grammar. The room was always clean and breakfast is modst but very good. I liked 403 even better than 405. It is lighter and a little rosier. Many things pleased me my any camplaint was that the plumbing seemed sometimes to back up. I will recommend it to others. I feel at home here . And thanks for the Russian tea! Great idea!
